I came to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and the rest of the hadith is the same as narrated (above) except this that a man said: Where is Malik ibn Dukhshun or Dukhaishin, and also made this addition that Mahmud said: I narrated this ver hadith to many people and among them was Abu Ayyub al-Ansari who said: I cannot think that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) could have said so as you say.

He (the narrator) said: I took an oath that if I ever go to Itban. I would ask him about it. So I went to him and found him to be a very aged man, having lost his eyesight, but he was the Imam of the people.

I sat by his side and asked about this hadith and he narrated it In the same way as he had narrated it for the first time. Then so many other obligatory acts and commands were revealed which we see having been completed. So he who wants that he should not be deceived would not be deceived.

(Bana Ebû Bekr b. en-Nadr b. Ebi'n-Nadr da rivâyet etti. Dedi ki; Bana Ebû'n-Nadr Hâşim b. el-Kâsım rivâyet etti. ki): Bize Büheyye'inin tilmizi Ebû Akil rivâyet etti. ki: Ben cl-Kasîm b. Ubeydillâh ile Yahya b. Saîd'in yanında oturuyordum.

What it means

Abu Tha‘labah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) if they were allowed to eat in the plates of the People of the Book, although they may be impure?

"The People of the Book" refers to the Jews and the Christians, who were Abu Tha‘labah’s neighbors. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) permitted him to use these plates for eating or otherwise on two conditions: 1. Failing to find other utensils. 2.

Washing them. He then said that they were living in a land full of game and he would hunt with his bow, his trained hound, and his untrained hound. He asked what would be lawful to eat if caught by any of them. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) told him that the game shot by his bow would be permissible to eat on condition that he must mention the name of Allah, the Exalted, when he releases the arrow from the bow.

Likewise, it would be permissible to eat the game caught by the trained hound if the name of Allah was mentioned when releasing it. However, it would not be permissible to eat the game caught by the untrained hound, unless the game was found alive and slaughtered in an approved manner.
