The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “Good will remain (as a permanent quality) in the foreheads of horses till the Day of Resurrection.”

What the gradings mean

Every narration that has been graded shows it in three marks. Tap the marks on any narration to come back here.

  1. SahihSahih

Sound. Every narrator trustworthy and exact, the chain unbroken from end to end, and no hidden flaw in it.

  2. HasanHasan

Good. The same, except that one narrator was a little less exact. Acted upon, a step below sound.

  3. DaifDaif

Weak. A break in the chain, or a narrator the critics faulted. Not used to settle a ruling.

Questions

About the Hadith and how they are shown here.

What is a hadith?
A report of what the Prophet said, did or approved, passed on by named narrators from one to the next. The words are the matn; the line of narrators is the isnad, the chain.
What are the six books?
Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abi Dawud, Jami at-Tirmidhi, Sunan an-Nasa'i and Sunan Ibn Majah, the six collections scholars have relied on most.
What does agreed upon mean?
Recorded by both al-Bukhari and Muslim. The strongest thing that can be said of a narration.
Where does the text come from?
The Arabic and the English are from the open editions of each collection, checked against the printed books, with every chain read narrator by narrator. A mistake can be reported from any page.
Can I read the Hadith offline?
Yes, in the WhatSurah app. The six books and the Forties are on the phone the moment it is installed; the other eight come the first time one is opened. Get the app.
