He heard the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) say: “The length of a man’s prayer and the shortness of his Khutbah (religious talk) are a sign of his understanding (of the religion).”.
وَعَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا
قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ طُولَ صَلَاةِ اَلرَّجُلِ، وَقِصَرَ خُطْبَتِهِ مَئِنَّةٌ مِنْ فِقْهِهِ»

صحيح. رواه مسلم (869)، وهو بتمامه: قال أبو وائل: خطبنا عمار، فأوجز وأبلغ، فلما نزل قلنا: يا أبا اليقظان! لقد أبلغت وأوجزت. فلو كنت تنفست (أي: أطلت) فقال: إني سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: فذكره. وزاد: «فأطيلوا الصلاة، واقصروا الخطبة. وإن من البيان سحرا». «ومئنة«: علامة ودليل، والمعنى: أي: مما يعرف به فقه الخطيب. قلت: وإذ كان الأمر كذلك فانظر إلى حال خطباء زمانك هذا. واسترجع الله»
