The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) appointed Ibn Umm Maktum (radiyallahu anha) to lead the people in prayer in his absence and he was blind.
وَعَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُ;
«أَنَّ اَلنَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اِسْتَخْلَفَ اِبْنَ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ، يَؤُمُّ اَلنَّاسَ، وَهُوَ أَعْمَى»
