Once Sad (ibn Abi Waqqas) thought that he was superior to those who were below him in rank. On that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “You gain no victory or livelihood except through (the blessings and invocations of) the poor amongst you.”

Said İbn Ebi Vakkas’ın oğlu Mus’ab İbn Said nakletmiştir: Babam Said (cesur ve varlıklı olduğu için) diğer ashaba göre kendisinin daha imtiyazlı ve üstün olduğunu düşünürdü. Bunu fark eden Resulullah Sallallahu Aleyhi ve Sellem şöyle buyurdu: "Size lütfedilen zaferlerin içinizdeki zayıflar dışında başka bir sebeple gerçekleştiğini mi zannediyorsunuz?

What it means

Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqās (may Allah be pleased with him) thought that he had superiority over those beneath him from among the weak because of his bravery and the like. So, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: Are you granted victory and provided with sustenance except through your weak ones, through their supplications, prayers, and sincerity?

They are often more sincere in their supplications and more humble in their worship, as their hearts are free from attachment to the adornments of the worldly life.

What it teaches

  • Encouraging humility and preventing arrogance towards others.
  • Ibn Hajar said: If the strong are favored due to their bravery, the weak are favored due to their supplication and sincerity.
  • Encouraging kindness to the poor and giving them their rights, as it is one of the causes of Allah's mercy and support for you.
