Some men amongst the companions of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) were shown in their dreams that the night of Qadr was in the last seven nights of Ramadan. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “It seems that all your dreams agree that (the Night of Qadr) is in the last seven nights, and whoever wants to search for it (i.e. the Night of Qadr) should search in the last seven (nights of Ramadan).”

İbn Ömer r.a. şöyle demiştir: Nebi Sallallahu Aleyhi ve Sellem ashabından birkaç kişiye kadir gecesi rüyalarında Ramazan ayının son yedi gecesinde gösterildi. Bunun üzerine Resulullah Sallallahu Aleyhi ve Sellem şöyle buyurdu: "Rüyalarınızın son yedi gece üzerinde birleştiğini görüyorum. Öyleyse kadir gecesini araştıran kişi onu son yedi gecede araştırsın

What it means

Some men among the Prophet's Companions saw in their dreams that the Night of Qadr is in the last seven nights of Ramadan. Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: I see that your visions have agreed on the last seven nights of Ramadan. So, whoever seeks it and is keen on pursuing it, let him seek it and pursue it with diligence by increasing the good deeds, as it is more likely to be in the last seven, which start from the 24th night if the month of Ramadan is thirty days, or from the 23rd night if the month is twenty-nine days.

What it teaches

  • The merit of the Night of Qadr and the encouragement to seek it out.
  • Out of His wisdom and mercy, Allah has concealed this night so that people would be diligent in performing worship, seeking this night, and their reward would, thus, be abundant.
  • The Night of Qadr is in the last ten nights of Ramadan, and it is more likely to be in the last seven nights.
  • The Night of Qadr is one of the last ten nights of Ramadan. It is the night in which Allah Almighty revealed the Qur’an to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). He made this night better than a thousand months in its blessing, its immense significance, and the impact of good deeds performed therein.
  • It was named "the Night of Qadr,"  with a silent "d,"  either due to its honor, as one says: "so-and-so is of great 'qadr' (value or status)," making the addition of "night" an attribution of something to its quality, i.e., the noble night, signifying its immense status, grandeur, rank, etc. {Indeed, We sent it down on a blessed night.} [Surat ad-Dukhān: 3] Alternatively, it could be derived from "taqdīr" (decree), making the addition of the adverb to what it contains, i.e., it is the night in which the decree for the year is determined. {On that night, every matter of wisdom is determined.} [Surat ad-Dukhān: 4]
