I heard Abu Burdah say: I heard Ali ibn Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) say: The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: ‘Say: O Allah, I ask You for guidance and proper aim. When you ask for guidance, think of directions when travelling, and when you ask for proper aim, think of aiming an arrow.’ And he forbade – or forbade me – to wear garments made from a blend of linen and silk, to use red saddle cloths, or to wear a ring on the forefinger or middle finger.
