حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ

أَنَّهُ قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمَّ سَعْدٍ مَاتَتْ فَأَىُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ: «الْمَاءُ». قَالَ فَحَفَرَ بِئْرًا وَقَالَ هَذِهِ لأُمِّ سَعْدٍ

Sad asked: Messenger of Allah, Umm Sad has died; what form of sadaqah is best? He replied: Water (is best). He dug a well and said: It is for Umm Sad.

সা‘দ ইবনু ‘উবাদাহ (রাঃ) সূত্রে বর্ণিত। তিনি বলেন, হে আল্লাহর রসূল! উম্মু সা‘দ মৃত্যুবরণ করেছেন (তার পক্ষ হতে) কোন সাদাকা সর্বোত্তম হবে? তিনি বললেনঃ পানি। বর্ণনাকারী বলেন, তিনি (সা‘দ) একটি কূপ খনন করে বললেন, এটা উম্মু সা‘দের (কল্যানের) জন্য ওয়াকফ।[1] হাসান।

سعد بن عبادہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! ام سعد ( میری ماں ) انتقال کر گئیں ہیں تو کون سا صدقہ افضل ہے؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: پانی ۔ راوی کہتے ہیں: چنانچہ سعد نے ایک کنواں کھدوایا اور کہا: یہ ام سعد ۱؎ کا ہے۔

Telah menceritakan kepada Kami [Muhammad bin Katsir], telah mengabarkan kepada Kami [Israil], [Abu Ishaq] dari seorang [laki-laki], dari [Sa'd bin 'Ubadah], bahwa ia berkata; wahai Rasulullah, sesungguhnya ibuku yaitu Ummu Sa'd telah meninggal, maka sedekah apakah yang paling utama? Beliau bersabda: "Air." Orang tersebut mengatakan; kemudian Sa'd menggali sebuah sumur dan mengatakan; ini adalah untuk Ummu Sa'd

Sa'd b. Ubâde'den rivayet edildiğine göre O, şöyle demiştir: Ya Resûlullah! Sa'd'ın annesi öldü. Hangi sadaka (çeşidi) daha faziletlidir? Resûlullah (s.a.v.): "Su" buyurdu. Râvi dedi ki: Sa'd bir kuyu kazdırdı ve "bu kuyu Sa'd'in annesinin kuyusudur." dedi

What it teaches

• The Hadīth points out that water is one of the best types of charity.
• The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) directed Sa‘d to the charity of water, as it is more beneficial in religious and worldly matters, and because of the intense heat, the bad need for water, and the scarcity of water.
• It indicates that the rewards for charity reach the deceased.
• It demonstrates the kindness of Sa‘d ibn ‘Ubādah (may Allah be pleased with him) toward his mother (may Allah be pleased with her).
