Surah At-Taariq 86

سُورَةُ الطَّارِقِ“The Morning Star”17 Ayat

86:1By the sky and the night comer -وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ
86:1

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ

By the sky and the night comer -

86:2And what can make you know what is the night comer?وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ
86:2

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ

And what can make you know what is the night comer?

86:3It is the piercing star -ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ
86:3

ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ

It is the piercing star -

86:4There is no soul but that it has over it a protector.إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ
86:4

إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ

There is no soul but that it has over it a protector.

86:5So let man observe from what he was created.فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ
86:5

فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ

So let man observe from what he was created.

86:6He was created from a fluid, ejected,خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍ دَافِقٍ
86:6

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍ دَافِقٍ

He was created from a fluid, ejected,

86:7Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.يَخْرُجُ مِن بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ
86:7

يَخْرُجُ مِن بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ

Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.

86:8Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able.إِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِ لَقَادِرٌ
86:8

إِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِ لَقَادِرٌ

Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able.

86:9The Day when secrets will be put on trial,يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ
86:9

يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ

The Day when secrets will be put on trial,

86:10Then man will have no power or any helper.فَمَا لَهُ مِن قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ
86:10

فَمَا لَهُ مِن قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ

Then man will have no power or any helper.

86:11By the sky which returns [rain]وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ
86:11

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ

By the sky which returns [rain]

86:12And [by] the earth which cracks open,وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ
86:12

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ

And [by] the earth which cracks open,

86:13Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement,إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ
86:13

إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ

Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement,

86:14And it is not amusement.وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ
86:14

وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ

And it is not amusement.

86:15Indeed, they are planning a plan,إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا
86:15

إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا

Indeed, they are planning a plan,

86:16But I am planning a plan.وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا
86:16

وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا

But I am planning a plan.

86:17So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile.فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًا
86:17

فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًا

So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile.

The Virtues of Surat At-Tariq

An-Nasa'i recorded that Jabir said, "Mu'adh lead the Maghrib prayer and he recited Al-Baqarah and An-Nisa'. So the Prophet ﷺ said,

أَفَتَّانٌ أَنْتَ يَا مُعَاذُ، مَا كَانَ يَكْفِيكَ أَنْ تَقْرَأَ بِالسَّمَاءِ وَالطَّارِقِ وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا وَنَحْوِهَا؟

(Are you putting the people to trial O Mu'adh? Was it not sufficient for you to recite As-Sama'i wat-Tariq, and Ash-Shamsi wa Duhaha, and something like them?)
